TWGHW: FREE One-Year Homeschool Curriculum!

Teaching With God’s Heart for the World

By Ann Dunagan, Illustrated by Brenda Whitmeyer
Published by Family Mission-Vision Enterprises

“A one-year unit study curriculum, especially designed for homeschoolers,  incorporating God’s heart for world missions into nearly every subject!”

Ann wrote this two-volume world missions curriculum (with over 500 pages) several years ago to assist homeschooling families and Christian educators (in both church settings and in Christian schools) to impart a fervent heart for world missions into the next generation.

The curriculum includes 160 day-by-day teaching plans, missionary highlights, motivational mission stories, crafts, songs, prayer projects, and hundreds of ways to incorporate a passion for the lost into nearly every subject (including Bible Study, Family Devotions, Reading, Writing, Geography, History, Art, Science, and even highlights for Math).

The curriculum presents a “whirlwind tour” of God’s enduring passion for missions, all-the-way-through-history and all-across-the-globe. Using weekly unit-studies, this curriculum is created to be used over a one-year school year, although it can be easily adapted to be used throughout two years. It can be used as a core curriculum guide (for elementary children), or as a supplement to another curriculum. It is written especially for elementary grade levels, but it can also be used for the whole family to study missions together.

  1. Absolutely!!! Feel free to use it however you can. Some of the material is outdated, but whatever can be a blessing by all means YES!!!

  2. ELS says:

Would it be possible to use this curriculum high school-wide through a virtual academy? I love it so much I want to implement it for teaching a missions-mindset to our high schoolers who have entered the latter courses of Bible and Social Studies.

  3. Stephanie says:

I am so excited about Teaching with God’s Heart for the World. Thank you so much for writing it! I ordered a copy of volume 1 off Amazon, and it arrived yesterday. I love it so much that I want to start it now. I will wait until next September though, so we can be on track with the holidays.

  4. Kelly,

Wonderful to hear that you found this curriculum through the Teach Them Diligently conference schedule. Christi and I are looking forward to speaking at that conference in March (in South Carolina) and motivating families for world missions.

    Blessings to you!
    Ann

  5. Kelly says:

I wanted to thank you so much for creating this curriculum. When I was looking for the Teach them Diligently Conference schedule, I am across your information and was delighted when I found the curriculum. We are so excited to begin (my youngest has a true heart for missions) and hope to meet you at the conference. Thank you again. God bless.

  6. Dear Elaina,

This would probably be a perfect year for you to go through this curriculum. Many families have used this curriculum over a two-year time, and after going through it, it’s always a foundation that can be used to supplement any other curriculum you use. A mission-mindset is something that can definitely be used throughout high school, but I’ve found that it’s easier during 9-12th grade to go more traditional in your transcript (but this is still great and easy-to-use for writing ideas, and for Bible lessons). Let me know how it goes for your family!!!

Christmas blessings to you and your family!
    Ann

  7. Elaina says:

We recently made the decision to homeschool our three children and naturally I began web-searching for curriculum ideas…with the hopes of finding as much free stuff as possible, lol. Was I thrilled when I found this, thank you so much for making this available.

I do have a question. My children are in grades 5th,7th, and 8th. I know that TWGHW is designed for one year, my question is do you think that it would be possible to use this through graduation? I figured if we wanted to continue using this after one year we would need to do additional supplementing, just wondering if you or anyone else believes this would work?

My hope is to find something we can use and grow with for at least a couple of years.

  8. Angie,

    Thanks for your question.
Unfortunately it is not possible to get this curriculum in any other format.
We’ve scanned the pages and loaded them online (as PDF files) to simply have them available.

    Blessings to you.
    Ann

  9. Angie Vik says:

Is it possible to get this curriculum as a Word document?

  10. Ruth says:

Thank you so much for this.It is just what I have been looking for! I wanted to take a much needed break from just academics in our homeschooling but didnt know how to put it all together. You did it for me! Thanks again.

  11. Dear Colleen — You can begin teaching little children with a HEART for world missions, even in Kindergarten. I would recommend getting a few books, such as Window on the World, Passport to the World, or a read-aloud book with mission stories such as Missionary Stories with the Millers, or even the FREE passport CRAFT, to teach your child to pray for the world. This “Teaching With God’s Heart for the World” curriculum is best to use for one or two years during mid to late elementary school years (or if a family has several children, during a year or two when the majority of the family children are at this level). BLESS YOU!!! ~Ann

  12. Colleen Wachob says:

Hello! I am searching for options for kindergarten for next year – and an trying to figure out whether this program will work for a 5 year old or if it would be wiser to wait until later elementary years. What are your thoughts?

  13. Dear Shamiya,

There’s no sign-up. You can simply download this entire day-by-day family homeschooling curriculum (they are uploaded in weekly segments). It incorporates most subjects, including Science, Social Studies, Geography, Writing, and Reading in a unit-study format. It can be adapted for all ages, but it is primarily geared for older elementary school age children. You would need to add grammar and math.

The concept of this one-year curriculum is to give your children a whirl-wind overview of world history and geography, all with an international Christian missions perspective. Take a look!!!

    Blessings to you!
    Ann

  19. Dear Neecy —

I want to let you know that THIS WEEK (Sept 16th – Sept 23rd) we’re going to be re-scanning this entire TWGHW curriculum, and re-loading it into the website in smaller pdf files (with each weekly unit study as a separate file). Just as a heads up. Some people have trouble getting the large files to download, but if you’re patient they usually are possible to access.

If you wait about a week, they should be much easier to get.

Blessings to you and your family!!!

  20. Neecy says:

Thank you so much for this. I will be downloading this today as time allows for it.

    Dear Brother in Christ!

May Jesus Christ bless you and your ministry work for more expansion in the world and Holy Ghost always help to find where your help need.

I am from Islamic Republic of Pakistan where it is difficult to have Radio and TV channel for preaching purposes. They would not allow us to do that here; the Satan has real strong hold over everything. I often say that we are living in the land of the enemy.

Brother, we humbly request you to expand your outreach your program in Urdu and Punjabi language. Urdu is the language spoken and understood by more than one sixth of the total population of the world. Urdu is spoken in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Afghanistan and also in Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran and others.

I would ask you to pray and share it among the brethren. I would offer my services for being translator, recorder and distribution/sales. I pray that your consideration will have His mark over your decision.

We wish that the words of Gospel not limited in some countries but also outreach where the words of Gospel not yet known. Please preach the words of Gospel in all nations.

May God bless you abundantly! May His perfect will be done!

I would love to download this curriculum and use it with my children. We love missions. I’m having getting to the download though. When I click on the link, it goes to a blank page. This happens for all parts of both volumes. However, I can download the file folder weekly to do chart just fine. Don’t know if there’s a broken link or something is just not working right on my end. Wanted to let you know.

  31. Sandi says:

    Ann,
Sorry to bother you again. I have one more question. I found somewhere that it said that you made notes when you used this with your kidos. Where would I find these online? Is this the chart you are talking about? I found some at mission minded blog but I could not pull them up.

Also, where would I find copies of your talks at homeschool conferences?
    THanks!
    Sandi

  32. Sandi says:

    Ann,
I am very excited about this. When do you expect to have the chart up?
We started our challenge today and wanted to thank you for that also.
    Have a great day!

  33. Ann Dunagan says:

    Sandi,

Yes, this curriculum can definitely be used over 2 years. The specific reading pages will be out of date, but if you just focus on the material in the TWGHW curriculum itself, and the list of topics and themes (which you can use from online info, or any world history text as a reference book) it’s easy to follow. There are daily devotions, weekly Bible verses/crafts/recipes, and lots of writing ideas (actually, way too many . . . don’t ever feel overburdened by what is on the weekly schedule . . just take what is a blessing and put aside the rest). For our kids, we supplimented the material with daily MATH and GRAMMAR – and used the rest for the backbone of what held everything together.

Stay tuned for a online file-folder CHART – which is designed to use with this curriculum – and which helped us SOOOO much.

  34. Sandi says:

    Ann,
Praise God for all your hard work and your willingness to share this with everyone for free! I am soooo excited to use this for my kidos this year! We might use it over the course of two years. I have 4 sweet blessings. My oldest is 13. When you used this recently for your children what did you substitute? Did you still use the Abeka as your spine? Just curious how you did this?
I am so excited to share this with my children and I am excited about how God will use it in my life! Thank you once again and God Bless you and your family!
    His Child,
    Sandi

  35. Welcome Rene! I’m happy to hear that this curriculum is a blessing to you. Our heart is to stir up a PASSION for JESUS and for sharing His love with others. Be sure to also note the second comment (up above) as some of the material is out-of-date. Just take what you can. And spread the word about the 40-Day Mission-Minded FAMILY CHALLENGE. I’m going to be working on adding a devotional to go with it, along with a weekly discussion guide so the CHALLENGE can be used for women’s study groups, family home groups, and friends. Stay tuned…

  36. Rene says:

This curriculum is invaluable to the Christian family! Wow, praise God for you and your hard, hard work on this. I have just begun to look through it and I am excited and thankful that God led me to your site! I have also just begun your 40 day challenge. Wonderful, wonderful! Thank you! May the LORD bless you abundantly as you seek to share the gospel around the world. I am excited to share this with everyone I know!

    Amy,

I’m excited and encouraged to have you and your family joining us. We don’t know your friends, Tim & Mary, & Molly, but so appreciate every person who has had an impact – through prayer, or support, or ministry – on our loved ones and “family” at Osanidde. Jon will be going to check up on things a bit later in the summer, and even this week we heard some wonderful reports from the uncles and children.

Thanks for your comment. (As you go through the 40 days, feel free to share comments. The feedback is very helpful.)

    Hi Ann,
I want to second everything Julie said, except I didn’t get my heart for missions until 19 when I got saved, and I just had baby #4 in November. 😉 Julie’s my “unbiological sister” and she told me about this site. Thank you from me too. 😀 When I saw that you had started Osanidde I was going to ask if you knew our friends too…Tim & Maryl Smith, and Molly Nixon.
Anyway, I SO appreciate your heart. I look forward to reading your Mission-Minded books someday, but right now I’ve got to catch up on my 40 days. You inspire me to do as you are, using your gifts (writing, etc.) to give to others for Jesus. 😉

    Amy’s last blog post..That’s the 50 states!

  39. Ann Dunagan says:

Julie, you definitely seem like a kindred-spirit (as Anne of Green Gables would say)!!!! I look forward to getting to know you more as your and your family use this curriculum, and I totally pray for God’s ANOINTING on you and your husband as you raise and homeschool your precious children (and congratulations on kiddo #6!!!!!! You’re catching up with our family!)

As you begin to use the curriculum, you’ll notice that some of the material is out-of-date . . . and also, with the ages of your kids you won’t be able to use everything. Just take what can bless your family, and ignore anything that would be a bother. My motto is to let the curriculum help you, but never let it become a task-master.

Our family went through Teaching With God’s Heart for the World this past year with our three youngest kids, and we didn’t even follow everything (I’ve found that my writing assignments way-too-tedious, and I needed to add a more substantial grammar program). TWGHW can also used to simply add a few mission-minded units scattered throughout the year. Be sure to also see The Mission-Minded Child and The Mission-Minded Family.

And I’m so happy that you’ve been led to pray for the children of Osanidde Village. Who are your friends who went there?

    Please keep in touch!!!!
    Love, Ann

Ann Dunagan’s last blog post..40-Day Mission-Minded FAMILY CHALLENGE!

  40. Julie says:

    Oh my goodness!!!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU so VERY MUCH!!!!

I learned of this curriculum about 18 months ago when I was investigating everything about your ministry on your website. I had friends who went to Osanidde for a few weeks to minister, and I came online to find photos to share with my kids as we prayed for our friends.

I was so delighted to learn of the curriculum and was disappointed to learn it was out of print (back then). I thought I might pursue used copies, but somehow it slipped my mind or got forgotten in the busy-ness of life.

I currently homeschool our 5 kids (expecting #6 in Oct), and our eldest is 10. I have longed to birth in them a desire for missions and hunger for God’s word. I’ve wanted to be a missionary since I was 5 years old myself.

Yesterday we put up a large world map on our dining room wall, and the kids were eager to start exploring it. I decided to look online for free geography unit studies and stumbled upon this page. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was!
I immediately downloaded everything and today we made passports.

I really can’t express to you how excited I am and THANKFUL for your gracious gift of this curriculum FREE! I am definitely sharing the info with other moms I know who have a heart for missions.

    BLESS YOU!
