Oddly this challenge was harder for me. I don’t think we are asleep at “eye guard duty” but I was just re-evaluating some of the kids’ dvds and recognizing the sarcasm and crude humor some of the more recent movies have in them. For some reason I feel a catch in my response to just get rid of them. I’m giving myself a little more time to evaluate this part and examine what my convictions are. One funny story… After the kids had watched 101 Dalmations, my 4 year old was heard several times saying, “You midian!” in an angry tone. I couldn’t figure out what she was trying to say until I realized she was mimicking Cruella’s “You idiot!” phrase. Then I realized what I had allowed in the gates, and what I now had to battle.
The TV part seems much more natural to cut out though. I do find differences between what my husband watches, what I watch and what we let the kids watch. I’m wondering if it is important that we all be on the same page or if we guard to sensitivity levels? I love the time that is freed up when I’m not watching TV.
