Where in the World . . . is Chile & Argentina?

What a fun way to learn about the world!

Right now, our oldest son is traveling all over the world on a global adventure — most recently in Chile and Argentina. As a mission-minded homeschooling family, we love to learn about different nations and cultures, and we love to pray for people who need Jesus. Every few weeks, as we get news about this trip, we’re using it as a way for our kids to learn about WORLD MISSIONS (along with world geography and worldviews).

There are so many exciting things to see and to do . . .

ORPHAN NEWS: God’s Provision for WATER!!!

An Urgent Need for Water . . .

We are thrilled to share an exciting report of God’s provision!

Recently, Harvest Ministry had an urgent need for a large water tank at Guma Na Yesu Children’s Center. The cost for this orphan need was nearly $3,000 (above and beyond Harvest Ministry’s monthly orphanage commitment). This was a heavy burden on our hearts and a matter for specific prayer.

When we were recently in Uganda, we (Jon & Ann) saw this need for water in person,
but the situation had become much more desperate . . .

There are 143 million orphans in the world today. Why should you CARE?

water1

’cause it’s PURE!

We all know that it’s physically healthy to drink a lot of pure fresh water. Well, how much of God’s PURE and undefiled religion are we getting into our spiritual system on a regular basis?

The connection to the city water was too undependable and was often completely shut off. The workers were needing to haul plastic buckets (“jerry cans”) of water from a very dirty nearby stream that was covered with scum. It was horrible.

An urgent email just last week (on February 8th) highlighted this need once again. It was a real need . . . and very important. But beyond our capability.

And so WE PRAYED to our very REAL GOD!!!

Keep it Pure!

“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this, to visit orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” (James 5:12)

God’s Provision . . .

A few hours after receiving this email about the urgent need for water, Ann spoke at a local Christian school about world missions, orphans, and George Muller (a famous missionary from the 1800s who cared for thousands of orphans in Bristol, England). Together, the students and teachers agreed together in prayer for God to meet this need.

There was an excitement among the kids (and a faith in our hearts) that God would meet this need, just like He provided bread and milk for George Muller so long ago.

The very next day, we received a phone call from a lady who we had never met (she had read a mission article online and came to see Harvest Ministry’s website). On the phone, this woman shared how she and her husband felt in prayer that God was directing them to give a specific missions gift — of $6,000!!! — for Harvest Ministry’s urgent orphan needs!!!

WooHoo!!! The need was answered, with more than enough!

We were (and are) absolutely thrilled for this specific and abundant answer to prayer.

As with all designated missions donations (given directly to Harvest Ministry), 100% of this gift will be used overseas for the needs of these orphan children. For this need, $3,000 will be designated for the need for water for the orphans, and $3,000 to complete the construction of 10 greatly needed teacher’s rooms at Guma Na Yesu Children’s Center.

588-vh

To God be the GLORY!!!!

We’re so thankful for God’s provision and for the obedience and trust of this family (who we’ve never met). We’re so thankful for the hard work of all the teachers and leaders at Guma Na Yesu Children’s Center. We’re so thankful for the prayers of the kids and teenagers at the Christian school . . . and for everyone who has been faithfully praying for Harvest Ministry’s orphan needs.

May God bless you all!!!

Let’s drink more.
Let’s keep it pure.

Daring Daughters Radio: Leaving a Legacy

On today’s Daring Daughter broadcast, mother-daughter co-hosts Ann and Christi Dunagan chat about “Leaving a Legacy” from one generation to another — from mom to daughter, and also learning and growing from daughter to mom.

Leaving a Legacy: Mothers & Daughters

During this episode, Ann and Christi address comments and questions from speaker and homeschooling mother of six, Angie Tolpin (of Leaving a Legacy).

How have you nurtured a strong mother-daughter relationship over the years?
How do you focus on the heart attitude in your daughters?
How do you make an intentional effort to open communication with your daughters?
How are you leaving legacy with your daughters (especially in spiritual areas)?

In raising our girls to be daring daughters for God, we as moms need to instill a godly legacy. But usually special mother-daughter moments don’t “just happen”; we need to be intentional. For more about the vision for Daring Daughters — including the new facebook page, twitter page, upcoming events, and blogtalk radio show, see our VISION page . . .

Q & A’s with Angie Tolpin @ Leaving a Legacy:

Q. ANGIE TOLPIN of LEAVING A LEGACY:
Ann, looking back at yourself as a mom of middle-aged children and babies, how did you begin proactively preparing your heart to let go and let God have your children for service overseas?

A. ANN DUNAGAN:
With each child, there was definitely a time of “dedicating” each one to the Lord and praying over them and committing each little one into God’s hand. I didn’t know what that would look like, but I honestly made a conscious effort to surrender each child to God, like Hannah dedicated her future child (Samuel) to God’s purposes. I also spent quite a bit of time teaching our kids about world missions, and even as we learned about different missionaries and various countries, I would let the kids know that my heart as a mom was for each of them to fulfill God’s will for their life.

I think surrendering our kids to God is a layered process; I keep thinking I’ve “done it” but then it’s like the Lord takes me to a deeper level of surrender. As Christi was beginning her relationship with Trae (who’s family lives in Niger, West Africa — a very poor and hot and predominantly Muslim country), the decision to surrender became a real process of “letting go,” and a real guy (who Jon & I had never even met in person) who was in love with our girl. But God is so AMAZING!!! What originally felt like a sacrifice has become one of God’s most wonderful gifts. Trae is an awesome man of God, and we are thrilled about how the Lord has led them together, and how he is now becoming our future son. And who knows where He will take them in the future. The two are looking at several different possibilities: Brazil, France, Niger, Asia . . . and even (now, brace yourself: doesn’t this sound scary and dangerous?) . . . Kona, Hawaii (to go through YWAM’s University of the Nations).

Q. ANGIE TOLPIN:
Christi, when you were growing up, around the ages 9-12, what was your spiritual perspective on missions & purpose in life in comparison to now? Do you see a direct connection with your mom & dads purposeful parenting style? Give some examples!

A. CHRISTI DUNAGAN:
I see a huge connection between my parents’ style of raising us and my heart for missions. It is because of my parents that I want to go into missions. My dad and mom didn’t just talk the talk, they lived it — literally traveling to the uttermost parts of the earth for the sake of the gospel. I saw how alive and on fire they were, and it started a flame in me too.

Raising REAL MEN for God

Today’s world desperately needs REAL MEN; and as mission-minded parents, we need to do our part to raise our boys to make a difference for God’s kingdom.

Training Our Boys to be Men

Young men hunger for adventure, yet their desires will never to be met by watching high-action movies, or by becoming an expert in video games. And they don’t need us as women and as moms to tell them to just sit still in church and be good little boys.

We need to raise our boys for daring kingdom leadership.

“If I want my men to be dangerous for the kingdom of God, I need to be dangerous too. Over the years, God has shown me that I need to be WARRIOR in prayer and intercession, and not a WORRIER.”

Today, we’re over on another website called PASSIONATE HOMEMAKING — encouraging moms about raising strong sons for God. Today’s featured article (part 1 of a 2-part series) is about “Training Our Boys to be Men.” Feel free to add your thoughts or questions as a COMMENT on the Passionate Homemaking page. Any discussion really adds to an article’s impact!

Book #2 in the Mission-Minded Set

Introducing:

The Mission-Minded Family

Often, parents and teachers ask their children, “What do YOU want to be when you grow up?” Even within the church, this present generation is fixated on obtaining fame, wealth, and pleasure. But shouldn’t we be encouraging our children’s willingness to surrender to God’s plans for their futures?

In The Mission-Minded Family, Ann Dunagan presents a plan to transform the “Me Generation” into passionate warriors
consumed with God’s glory.

GIVE YOUR FAMILY A DANGEROUS DESTINY!

“I loved this book! In a time in our country where the tendency is to keep our money and time and children very safe, this book encourages – even pushes – us to get out in the world and make a real difference with the resources we’ve been given. Ann Dunagan is no arm-chair missionary…the pages of the book are filled with actual experiences that she and her husband and kids have done for many years. It totally inspired me to take some big risks and help my kids learn to love the world beyond our doorstep.”

– Bo Stern – Bend, Oregon

EXCELLENT THOUGHT-PROVOKING RESOURCE!

The Mission Minded Family is an excellent thought-provoking resource to assist Christian families in moving in this more sane and biblical drection. By establishing this balance between our personal lives and our outreach to others we can enjoy a productive mission while launching a new generation into the same missionary lifestyle. By honoring God’s wisdom, our families can effectively raise our own children for the Lord, and simultaneously reach our world with the good news of Jesus Christ . . .

As you read The Mission-Minded Family, you will be “walking with the wise.” Ann Dunagan will walk with you through a very important topic, one that could spare you and our children the heartache that many well-meaning missionaries families have had to endure because of shortsighted missionary traditions…”

– Gregg Harris (from the book’s forward)

EDUCATIONAL . . . AND THE COOLEST BOOK!

“The Mission Minded Family” by Ann Dunagan is the coolest book! It has everything: hymns, stories of missions, mini biographies of missionaries, skits, a calendar of international holidays and suggestions for how to pray on those days, tools for teaching mission-mindedness, and even practical tips for missionary travel. This is an educational and informative book whether you’re planning to be a foreign missionary, a local missionary, or just to learn more about the field.”

– Stacey, Las Vegas, NV

ABSOLUTELY INSPIRING!

“In our busy lives, very seldom, do we stop to ask God if we’re truly fulfilling His purposes in our lives. “The Mission Minded Family” opens that line of communication between you and God to have a discussion about His will for your life…Don’t be surprised if you hear God speaking to you in greater ways than you ever imagined. If you are a church leader, I can’t imagine a better resource to promote to your congregation and a better gift to give to your missionary families. Ann Dunagan walks you through her and her husband’s lives as a missionaries and sprinkles it with wisdom coming from her young children who have experienced the power of God in and through their lives. The book is not only a resource that provides you with countless “how-to’s,” but it is filled with the Dunagan family’s missionary experiences that will inspire you and draw you nearer to God.”

Sharing the LOVE of Jesus . . . in Costa Rica!

Today, Josh & Anna Dunagan are flying to COSTA RICA on an exciting new mission adventure . . . to share the love of Jesus in Central America!

This past year, Josh & Anna started a children’s home in India, launched a remote Bible school, and began supporting four full-time national ministers. Now, they’re branching out into new countries and with increased vision to expand the Kingdom of God and to bring light into dark areas. And just recently (in January, 2012), these awesome young mission-minded newlyweds launched out from Harvest Ministry to establish a new mission called GOSPEL PROJECTS INTERNATIONAL.

Mission to Costa Rica – in Central America

On this mission in Costa Rica, Josh & Anna will minister to people on the streets and distribute Bibles door-to-door (working with our missionary friends Steve & Elizabeth Gilroy). As they were getting ready to go, Anna wrote:

As we prepare to leave for our trip to Costa Rica, we are so excited to see how the Lord will use us to minister to the lost and hurting and most of all, win souls for the Kingdom of God! Please keep us in your prayers, we will be meeting up with a missionary family in Costa Rica to: help with a Bible distribution program and minister to ladies who have been trapped in prostitution and human trafficking.

Please keep them in prayer!

NEW Secondary School Opens at GUMA NA YESU

Exciting things are happening at Harvest Ministry’s Guma Na Yesu in Uganda, East Africa. This week, a new Secondary School is launching for the older children.

The vision . . .

It’s the beginning of dreams-coming-true and many prayers being answered.

This week, in Uganda, East Africa, a new secondary school (high school) is launching to help the older teenage children at Guma Na Yesu (Keep With Jesus) Children’s Center. It’s called Kingdom Vocational Secondary School and the vision is for a Christ-centered secondary educational training center, with potential to become financially independent.

The secondary school is beginning with a combination of day students (who will pay tuition) and overnight boarding orphan children (who will receive free education).

Christian families from the local churches has been requesting a Christ-center secondary (high) school and Guma Na Yesu Children’s Center has been needing a secondary school to help the older children. This vision helps to fulfill both needs.

February orphan focus . . .

This month’s orphan-focused memory verse:

“Learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the ruthless,
defend the orphan, plead for the widow.”

Isaiah 1:17

This month’s orphan prayer focus: EDUCATION

Students check in . . .

(Some of the older children – orphans – from Guma Na Yesu Children’s Center who will be benefiting from the new secondary school. This secondary education, with a Christ-centered foundation, will give these teenagers increased training for life and hope for their futures.)

New uniforms . . .

Secondary Education (High School)

The property and buildings were formerly the main “mother-church” center; a few years ago, the main church moved to a new location and since that time, this building has been mostly unused. This is an exciting answer to prayer and a good example of making “full use” of what we have in our hands!

Caring Teachers . . .

Vocational Training . . .

Practical vocational skills includes carpentry, tailoring (sewing — which is also benefiting Guma Na Yesu Children’s Center by making the school uniforms), poultry farming, and goat keeping. We are also preparing to launch a Bible training school (using an international Bible college curriculum), both for these secondary students and for remote village pastors.

It’s a beginning of a new dream . . .

This week, the secondary (high) school began with over 30 students and 8 teachers . . . and many more students are in the process of enrolling.

NETS ministers, Naboth & Alice Tumuhairwe, are directing (and delegating) this new project, and we would appreciate if you would keep them (and us) in your prayers, for God’s wisdom and direction and provision.

Mission-Minded Romance

“Three of our kids have each found the “love of their life”; and as parents, we’ve already seen how all of these relationships are “multiplying” (rather than dividing) God’s calling and purposes for all three couples”

Holiness, Romance, and JOY!!!

Today, Ann is featuring a new article for Christian mothers over on another site called Visionary Womanhood — sharing some romantic family highlights, with three sweet love stories from our children . . . and encouraging families to focus on God’s design for holiness, romance, and JOY!!!

Come see . . .
